Vice Chair Job Description

2025 National Physician Advisor Conference

Reports to
NPAC Chair

Tenure:
One year. May be reappointed by the Chair for one or more additional years of service.

Function
The Vice Chair of the National Physician Advisor Conference (NPAC) is responsible for the success of the annual American College of Physician Advisors (ACPA) educational conference, including ensuring that NPAC meets the professional development and skill building needs of the membership.  The NPAC Vice Chair is not necessarily a member of the ACPA Board of Directors but is responsible for maintaining reporting and communications with the NPAC Chair and ACPA leadership as needed.

NPAC leadership consists of one Chair and two-to-three Vice Chairs working together to direct the conference.  This position manages a team of volunteers and works collaboratively with ACPA and the contracted event planning company staff.  Individuals agreeing to serve as a Vice Chair should plan for an average of five hours of service per week over a ten-to-twelve-month planning period with one or two months possibly involving up to ten hours a week.  An honorarium is offered in recognition of the additional time and expertise required to accomplish NPAC goals.

While typically an in-person onsite conference, circumstances may occasionally require planning of a virtual event.

Principal Activities

  • Work with the ACPA President, VP Operations, management team, and NPAC Chair to develop annual NPAC pricing, revenue, and attendance goals.
  • Work with NPAC Chair and the contracted event planning company staff in the development of a balanced NPAC annual budget.
  • Work closely with NPAC Chair and the contracted event planning company staff in the development of a master operational plan and timeline including division of duties and deadlines.

  • Attend regularly scheduled NPAC planning meetings, provide leadership, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Work with the NPAC Chair to develop agendas for all regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Draft communications to specific groups as necessary.  As appropriate, these communications may be distributed by the Chair/Vice Chairs, the ACPA staff, or another appropriate volunteer or vendor.
  • Monitor NPAC accomplishments and performance against the master operational plan.
  • Participate in the development of marketing strategies for implementation as appropriate by vendors, volunteers, VP Member Engagement, or other ACPA staff.
  • With the contracted event planning company staff, the ACPA President, and leadership, participate in decision-making around future NPAC venues, sites, and platforms as appropriate.
  • Help identify and cultivate future NPAC Chairs, Vice Chairs, and/or volunteers.
  • Create scripting for on-stage introductions and announcements for NPAC.
  • Attend NPAC, work closely with the NPAC Chair and contracted event planning company staff, and during the conference be available to address or trouble-shoot any issues or concerns.
